The Virginia Happy Trails Running Club puts on several excellent training runs for the Massanutten Mountain Trails 100 race held in May. The Martin Luther King weekend was the first of the fat ass events. It was a warm, cold, sunny, snowy, foggy weekend to run!

Devils Postpile National Monument is near Mammoth Mountain, California. An extraordinary example of columnar basalt, it was formed less than 100,000 years ago when cooling lava flow cracked into multi-sided columns. The symmetry in this rock structure is truly amazing. A beautiful trail that leads to a breathtaking view.

Sweet single track right across the street from my parent’s house that connects with my high school cross country course. Always fun to run on the old CC course, and now there are these lovely trails too. Â I enjoyed a few days of trail running while in town for Thanksgiving. Wish these had been there when I was in high school!

Camping with old friends, playing on the trails and in the woods at Tomlinson State Park in West Virginia. There were zillions of butterflies there! A very fun weekend.Â
