Hashawha Hills 50K

A winter 50K put on by the Virginia Happy Trails Running Club – Hashawha Hills starts at the Bear Branch Nature Center in Westminster, Maryland. It’s a 2 loop course that takes runners on a wild ride through frozen and muddy fields, hills, streams, fire roads, and horse trails surrounding the park. Great day playing on trail – and a most fabulous finishers mug made by a local potter.

Shoe sucking mud

A Week of Highlands Sky – Day 7

Ahhh…the endless stretches of “shoe sucking mud” (thanks to @ultrarunnergirl for the great term) that, at this point, had turned into “soul sucking mud”. On the top of Dolly Sods around mile 32ish(?), this stretch of deep muddy holes, lots of rocks, and endless muck tested me. Thankfully, the beautiful views and abundant flowers kept reminding me why I love to play on the trails.
